Born in Spartanburg District, South Carolina, Andrew B. Moore (1807-1873) was a lawyer and the Governor of Alabama from 1857 until the outbreak of the Civil War. On December 24, 1860, Moore issued writs of election, leading to the Secession Convention of 1861. During the war, he was appointed a special aide-de-camp under General Albert Sidney Johnston.
